This project started at the 2007 Vermont Governor's Institutes for Engineering. The goal was to make a cheap, simple, and affordable grass pelletizer for small scale applications. After the Institute I continued to work on the project, and made several prototypes, with little success. I quickly learned that making grass pellets isn't that hard-if you put tons of pressure on it. But what's hard is making a small machine capable of repeatedly, and rapidly delivering this pressure. Currently this project is on hold because my wood chip gasifier has taken up much of my time. However, the gasifier is capable of burning grass pellets, and I still think that a small scale pelletizer could play an important part in residential biomass energy.
